Franz Krieg von Hochfelden (born December 10, 1776 in Rastatt , † April 17, 1856 in Vienna ) was an Austrian statesman.

Life

Franz Krieg von Hochfelden comes from a Baden family of officials who were ennobled at the end of the 18th century. At the age of 17 he joined the imperial army, but soon quit his service and entered the administration. He also completed a law degree at the University of Lviv and the University of Krakow . From 1803 he was a draftsman at the Cracow and later at the Lviv Gubernium . This was followed by a steady civil service career: 1807 presidential secretary, 1808 gubernial councilor, 1810 district chief, 1815 court councilor in Lemberg, 1813 transfer to the general court chamber in Vienna, 1829 court chamber vice-president, 1831 gubernial president in Lemberg. During his time at the General Court Chamber, he concluded important trade agreements and obtained a reduction in transit tariffs. In Galicia he made a name for himself in traffic and education. The unclear attitude of the administration of Galicia during the Polish uprising in 1846 led to retirement the following year.

Krieg von Hochfelden has received numerous awards: Baron in 1818 , Privy Councilor and Commander's Cross of the Order of St. Stephen with diamonds in 1831 . In 1851 he was appointed to the newly founded Reichsrat and took over as its chairman from Karl Friedrich von Kübeck .

Freiherr von Krieg had three children. His daughter Julie was married to the Feldzeugmeister Ludwig von Benedek .

He was buried in Vienna in the Hietzinger Friedhof in an honorary grave (group 4, number 80).
