Franz Ludwig Freiherr von Könitz (born January 8, 1780 in Wickersdorf ; † January 8, 1840 ) was a German officer, landowner and member of the state parliament.

Life

Franz Ludwig Freiherr von Könitz was born on the estate of his step-grandfather, the royal Prussian general Johann Ludwig von Grünberg . He was the son of Helfgott Friedrich Heinrich Christian von Könitz (* 1750) and Maria Cäcilie Anna Josepha von Damnitz . His older brother was Anton von Koenitz , who later belonged to the Coburg state parliament .

His father later became the Saline Director in Moravia , but Franz Ludwig Freiherr von Koenitz took him to Lichtenfels in Bavaria with his mother and brother . He stayed there until he was 11 years old and until then was brought up according to the Catholic denomination, shaped and influenced by his mother, who was Marie Antoinette's lady-in-waiting when he was born. His godfather was the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim and he wanted to pursue a career similar to this at the time.

Together with his brother, however, he was brought up to the grandparents' house in Magdeburg in 1771 , where they were brought up according to the Protestant denomination. At the age of eleven he began his military service as a simple soldier in the same year and in a short time he passed the lower ranks, so that he was transferred as an officer to the regiment "Prince Ludwig of Prussia" stationed in Magdeburg . Son and grandfather had meanwhile been transferred to Frankfurt (Oder) as governor and died there, as a result of which Franz Ludwig Freiherr von Koenitz became the heir to an important fortune.

On October 14, 1806 he took part in the battle of Auerstedt . During the retreat he brought the Prussian war chest with a stock of 965,000 thalers to Magdeburg on behalf of the director of the field war commissioner Friedrich von Ribbentrop . Due to the exertion, however, he was nervous and asked for his departure, which was given in 1808, so that he resigned from the army with the rank of captain .

In 1808 he married the widow Antoinette Ernestine Sophie (* August 21, 1770 in Saalfeld; † August 15, 1828 in Schwarzbach ) of Curt Abraham von Einsiedel (1741-1805) from Wolftitz . This brought five children into the marriage. Since then he has lived mostly in Wolftitz.

Together with his brother he owned the Wickersdorf estate. In 1816 he sold his own share to his brother and then acquired the Schwarzbach estate , which was in the Neustädter Kreis .

In 1820 he was elected as a state in the state parliament of the Grand Duchy of Weimar and held this office until his death.

In 1833 he was promoted to major by Grand Duke Carl Friedrich .
