Johann Ludwig von Grünberg (born September 1726 in Gansenstein (Kr.Angerburg), † January 31, 1799 in Frankfurt an der Oder ) was a Prussian major general and chief of infantry regiment No. 24 .

His parents were the Prussian captain in Infantry Regiment No. 25 Balzer Adam von Grünberg and his wife Maria von der Mülbe .

Military career

He came to Berlin on January 26, 1742 as a cadet . After his training he was assigned to the Infantry Regiment No. 20 on March 30, 1745 . In the Second Silesian War he fought in the battles near Hohenfriedberg and Kesselsdorf , where he was wounded, and in the battle near Meißen (wounded again). On June 29, 1747 he became an ensign and on March 11, 1755 Seconde-Lieutenant. During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Lobositz , Prague , Roßbach (wounded), Kunersdorf (wounded), Liegnitz , Torgau , Freiberg and the sieges of Prague and Dresden. At that time he was on October 28, 1758 Premier-Lieutenant and on June 21, 1763 Chief of Staff. After the war on May 1, 1766 he became a real captain and company commander and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On August 2, 1781 he became major and on April 28, 1784 commander of the grenadier battalion 5/20. On October 31, 1788 he was promoted to commander of Regiment No. 20. At the revue of Körbelitz (near Magdeburg) on ​​May 27, 1789 he received the order Pour le Mérite . On August 20, 1790 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 17, 1791 colonel. But he began to suffer from gallbladder disease. On June 25, 1792, he was sent to Bad Lauchstädt for a cure for two months . With the beginning of the First Coalition War , his regiment chief Ludwig von Baden took to the field on July 29, 1793, as long as he had to lead the regiment alone. On July 29, 1795 he was appointed Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 24 by the King . He was also promoted to major general on January 1, 1796 (patent from January 7, 1796). He died on January 31, 1799 in Frankfurt an der Oder .
