Franz Mader (lawyer)

Franz Mader (born January 28, 1912 in Mitteldorf near Rokitnitz , Adlergebirge , † October 24, 1988 in Bielefeld ) was a German lawyer , officer and politician ( FDP , then CDU ). From 1967 to 1980 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia (MdL) and honorary chairman of the federal board of the Landsmannschaft Silesia .

Life

After graduating from a humanistic grammar school, Mader studied law, political science and economics at the University of Wroclaw . He passed the first and second state examinations in law. During his studies he became a member of the Arminia Breslau fraternity in 1932 , and later in 1954 a member of the Old Breslau fraternity of the Raczeks in Bonn .

During the Second World War he was initially a soldier in the German Wehrmacht and rose to become regimental commander . He was highly decorated for his bravery. He made himself available as a colonel in the reserve of the newly founded Bundeswehr in 1955 .

In 1948 he became a lawyer and in 1958 a notary.

In 1956 Mader joined the FDP and was active in the Bielefeld city ​​parliament for over two decades . In 1967 he moved up as a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and was re-elected in 1970 . In June 1970 he was one of the founders of the National Liberal Action in the FDP. In the further course of the year he joined the CDU .

As for his Upper Silesian compatriot and member of the German Bundestag, Erich Mende , Willy Brandt and Walter Scheel's Ostpolitik was the reason for leaving. In 1975 he won the direct mandate for the CDU in the constituency of Bielefeld City against the candidate Social Democratic Lord Mayor. It was the only time that the CDU was able to win this constituency. In 1980 he did not stand for re-election for the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Mader was state chairman of the Silesian Landsmannschaft in North Rhine-Westphalia, then deputy federal chairman and was also a deputy on the board of the Silesian Foundation. Later he became honorary chairman of the federal board of the Landsmannschaft Silesia.
