In 1732 he began his military career as an ensign , in 1742 he was already a lieutenant colonel . He served in the Habsburg service in Italy and France and was promoted to colonel on February 5, 1750 .

In addition, on March 7, 1758, he received the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order . In the further course of the war he distinguished himself through further clever maneuvers and was finally promoted to field marshal lieutenant in 1760.
