Franz Michael von Boltenstern

Franz Michael von Boltenstern (born October 2, 1657 in Wolgast as Franz Michael Bolte , † May 17, 1716 in Greifswald ) was a German lawyer and director of the royal Swedish court in Greifswald.

Life

He was the son of Wolgast's mayor and court counselor Joachim Bolte, who was elected in 1675 by the Swedish King Karl XI. with the name of Boltenstern was raised to the nobility, and the Agnisa Joels. He began studying at the University of Greifswald in 1665 and later moved to the University of Tübingen . After attending the University of Strasbourg , he traveled to France , the Netherlands and various German countries before returning to Pomerania in 1681 .

His father had meanwhile become a member of the Pomeranian court in Greifswald. Franz Michael von Boltenstern was able to get a job as an extraordinary trainee lawyer and was appointed full trainee lawyer in 1684. In 1686 he became an assessor at the court and in 1694 a councilor. In 1697 he was promoted to director of the court as the successor to the late Gualter von Greiggenschildt .

Charles XII. enfeoffed him in 1698 with the estates Altenhagen , Neu Seehagen, Sternhagen, Horst and Manschenhagen, which had fallen back after the von Dotenberg family died out . During the Great Northern War he was forced to move with part of his authority to Stralsund in 1711 and had to make do with a reduced salary. In 1713 he found his houses in Altenhagen and Greifswald looted and devastated, so that he had to stay in the court court and later in a hospital. After the occupation of Swedish Pomerania by the Danes in 1715, he refused to work with the new sovereigns. However, in 1716 he personally asked the Danish Governor General Franz Joachim von Dewitz to keep him in office. He died that same year.

Franz Michael von Boltenstern was married to Juliana Catharina von Ehrenfels since December 1, 1686. The marriage had ten children. His son Johann Franz von Boltenstern (1700–1763) was judge at the court court and at the Wismar high tribunal .
