Franz Reissner

Franz Reissner (born April 27, 1957 in Vienna ) is an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces and commander of the armed forces of the Austrian Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant General .

Life

Franz Reissner was born on April 27, 1957 in Vienna. From 1976 to 1979 he completed officer training at the Theresian Military Academy and was then employed as platoon and company commander at the Pioneer Troop School in Klosterneuburg. From 1985 to 1988, Reissner completed general staff training at the 11th course at the National Defense Academy . From 1988 to 1991, he served in the General Staff Department in the Ministry of Defense until 1991 when he became head of the G-4 department in the command of the Air Division. In 1994 he became the commander of the Pioneer Troop School.

From 1996 to 1998 he was employed as a planning officer at the United Nations in New York City and in 1998 he was promoted to head of the planning procedure in the Department of General Military Planning at the Federal Ministry of Defense . From 2002 to 2006 the officer was head of the Control Department, with a brief interruption (studies at the National Defense University in Washington, DC ).

In May 2006, Reissner succeeded Major General Karl Semlitsch, who had served very long, as military commander of Vienna. Brigadier Karl Schmidseder replaced him in this function in 2008 .

On December 10, 2012, Lieutenant General Reissner took command of the armed forces of the Austrian Armed Forces at the Armed Forces Command in the Belgian barracks in Graz from Lieutenant General Günter Höfler .
