Franz Richter (born January 16, 1920 in Vienna ; † May 1, 2010 ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

After completing high school, Franz Richter began studying music as a violinist with Willi Boskovsky at the University of Vienna. In 1940 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and in the turmoil of the last weeks of the war on the Pomeranian Lake District, he was taken prisoner by the Soviets in March 1945. It was not until 1948 that he was able to return to Austria from captivity and - as a "working student" in addition to working as a teacher at a Viennese vocational school - continued his studies that had been interrupted by the events of the war. phil. He then worked at various schools in Vienna ( Wiener Handelsakademie , most recently at the “ Theresianum ”) as a professor of chemistry. For chemistry lessons at secondary schools, he also wrote, together with his colleague Dr. Anton Seidl, several textbooks, the success of which provided him with the necessary means for his literary work as a poet and essayist.

In addition to his work as a teacher and writer, Franz Richter was also involved throughout his life in the field of art and culture, as a member of funding associations and art senates, as a sensitive and incorruptible reviewer for literary magazines and was able to manage many - young as well as older, already forgotten - Promote talent. Together with his wife, who shared and promoted his diverse musical inclinations as a violoncello soloist, Franz Richter maintained the almost extinct art form " house music " at a high level into old age - in constant contact with his large circle of friends from the field of music (e.g. Horst Ebenhöh, Reinhold Gabriel and others).
