from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Schubert (born April 21, 1917 in Neubrandenburg ; † June 25, 2001 in Kitzingen ) was a German businessman, publisher and genealogist .

Franz Schubert was the son of a teacher from Stavenhagen . He graduated from high school in Neubrandenburg in 1935, first became Reich Labor Service Leader and then an officer in the pioneers of the Wehrmacht . After the end of the war Schubert worked in the office machine industry, most recently as managing director of Rotowerke in Königslutter and Copygraph in Hanover . Schubert lived in Göttingen since 1976 and then moved to Kitzingen .

After retiring, Schubert turned to genealogy. He wrote:

“When I resumed my genealogical research after leaving the industry, I came across the records of confessionals stored in Göttingen at the time and found out how many starting points for my work resulted from these reports. But I also saw how diligently the genealogists work here in the archive, how much double and multiple work is being done, and above all how useful it should be to read through the more than 4,000 pages through a name register facilitate. I put one together and gave it to the Ratzeburg cathedral archive , to the state and church archives in Schwerin and of course to the Göttingen archive warehouse in mid-1977 . I then negotiated for a long time with the Mecklenburg Foundation to finance the printing costs. When we couldn't really make progress with this, I attended the annual federal culture conference of the Mecklenburg Landsmannschaft in Bad Bevensen with Prof. Dr. Roderich SCHMIDT and with retired archivist Dr. Georg TESSIN together. Here the decision was made to publish not only the names from the records of confessors, but the entire text. During this Bevensen conference I also decided to distribute the work by self-publishing by means of a subscription , a risk that took the risk off me almost immediately, so that the financing was secured after a few weeks. "

Franz Schubert is the founder of the sources and writings on the population history of Northern Germany .
