Franz Ritter von Juraschek (born February 24, 1849 in Arad , Austrian Empire , † February 7, 1910 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ) was an Austrian statistician .

Life

Franz von Juraschek studied philosophy and law at the University of Graz and the University of Breslau , where he also did his doctorate in 1872 and 1873. After a few years of study visits to Göttingen, Bonn and Heidelberg, he completed his habilitation in Graz in 1875 for constitutional law and in 1880 for statistics. In 1881 he became a full professor at the Franz Joseph University in Chernivtsi . In 1885 he moved to the University of Innsbruck, initially as an associate professor, and in 1885 as a full professor in the subjects of statistics and Austrian constitutional law .

In 1887 he became deputy president of the kk central statistical commission . At the University of Vienna he became a private lecturer in statistics in 1889 and in constitutional law in 1898. He was also a lecturer at the kuk war school from 1889.

In 1905 he became section head and president of the Imperial and Royal Statistical Central Commission , and in 1908 he became the real section head .

His scientific achievement concerned above all the comparative statistics, especially with the problems of Austria-Hungary .

As a mountaineer, von Juraschek, together with Johannes Frischauf and Mathias Spreiz, was the first to climb the Admonter Reichenstein in the Gesäuse.

Von Juraschek was the father of Franz Juraschek and the grandfather of Friedrich August von Hayek .
