List of grape varieties

The red grape variety Frappato di Vittoria is grown in the area of Vittoria in the southeast of the island of Sicily (Free Municipal Consortia Ragusa and Syracuse ).

It produces bright and lively red wines there and is used, for example, in the DOC regions Cerasuolo di Vittoria ( DOCG ) and Eloro Frappato. The variety can be expanded as a single variety . It is particularly often blended with the Nerello Cappuccio , Nerello Mascalese and Nero d'Avola grape varieties .

Although it can make an excellent complex wine with race and character, the very late-ripening vine occupied only 791 hectares in the early 1990s . In a study published in 2008, Frappato found a relationship to the Sangiovese grape variety . Because the parents of the Sangiovese variety have not yet been determined beyond doubt, the exact relationship cannot yet be specified.

ancestry

It is an autochthonous grape variety from Sicily.
