Winifred Alice "Freda" James (born January 11, 1911 in Nottingham , England, † December 27, 1988 ) was a British tennis player of the 1930s from England .

Career

Freda James won her first title at a Grand Slam tournament in 1933 at the US Championships (today US Open ) with Betty Nuthall without a fight against the Americans Helen Wills Moody and Elizabeth Ryan .

In 1935 and 1936 she won the women's doubles at Wimbledon together with Kay Stammers . In the first final they defeated Simonne Mathieu and Hilde Sperling 6: 1, 6: 4 and the following year Sarah Fabyan and Helen Jacobs also in two sets (6: 2, 6: 1).
