Free Souffriau [ freː ˈsufʀioː ] (born February 8, 1980 in Gent ) is a Belgian actress , singer and musical artist . She is best known for her role as Mega Mindy .

Life

Souffriau was born in Ghent, but grew up in Herzele . At the age of twelve she went to the boarding school of the City Ballet Institute in Antwerp , where she graduated in 1998. After graduating from school, she appeared in various musicals. She received her first leading role in the musical Sleeping Beauty , a production by Studio 100 . In 2004 she was diagnosed with a lymph node metastasis , but it healed quickly. Subsequently, she was offered the lead role in the children's television series Mega Mindy .

At the end of 2007 Souffriau took part in the television program Steracteur Sterartiest , in which she won the final. The prize money of 25,000 euros was donated to a good cause. Free collected a total of almost 35,000 euros for the Cliniclowns . In 2008 she took part in the singing competition Zo is er maar één with the song Zoals een mooi verhaal van Ann Christy . Although she won the preliminary round and the semi-finals, she then got third place in the final.

The song by Christy was the reason to start a new project with several songs from deceased singers. Souffriau published her interpretation of Ann Christy on the album Een beetje AnNders in 2009 . In March 2011 she released her second album called "Gewoon Free". This contains individual titles that were written by well-known Flemish music producers such as u. a. Will Tura and Bart Peeters .

Souffriau has been married to composer and musician Miguel Wiels since 2010 , with whom she has a son and a daughter.

Honourings and prices

  • In 2006 she took part in the show Tien voor taal in the category musical performers together with Peter Thyssen and Michaël Zanders . Souffriau won the final.
  • On January 25th, 2008 she won the final in the show Steracteur Sterartiest , a 13 week long singing competition in which actors can prove their singing skills to the audience.
  • On January 30th, 2008 she won an MIA in the popular category as Mega Mindy .
  • On February 22nd, 2008 she won the third preliminary round of Zo is er maar één with the title Zoals een mooi verhaal by Ann Christy . On April 18, she won the first semi-final. In the final on May 2, 2008 , she finished in third place.
  • On March 23, 2008 Free Souffriau won two Telenet Kids Awards in the category best music as Mega Mindy and in the category Girl of the Year as herself.
  • Exactly one week later she won the Flemish TV Star in the Rijzende Ster category .
  • On August 9th, 2008 she won two Radio 2 summer hit awards in the categories Best Kidspop as Mega Mindy and De Doorbraak.
  • In 2009 she won the Girl of the Year award for the second time in the Telenet Kids Awards .
  • On January 8th, 2010 she won an award in MIA's van 2009 , namely the "Best Popular Artiest" award for her Ann Christy Tour.
