The Freia was a Danske Statsbaner ferry that entered service in 1936. The ship, which was sold to Italy in 1975 , had an active service life of 72 years and was scrapped in Turkey in 2012 .
history
The Freia was ordered on September 12, 1935 in Aalborg Værft in Aalborg and laid down on November 28 of the same year under hull number 237. The launch took place on June 11, 1936. One day after its delivery, the ship started the ferry service between Nyborg and Korsør .
In February 1940 the Freia was in service for a few days on the route between Korsør and Aarhus before it returned to its original service. In October the ship was confiscated by the German Navy . After the war ended, it returned to the service of the Danske Statsbaner in September 1945.
After they came on different routes from 1957 used that was Freia retired on 1 October 1975 following 39 years in the service of the DSB in Kalundborg launched .
Freia IV / Ischia Express
Just a month later, a new owner was found for the ship, which was now named Freia IV , with Traghetti Pozzuoli Srl, based in Naples . After renovation work that radically changed the appearance of the ship, it began service from Naples to Procida in 1976 .
In 1977 the Freia IV was renamed Ischia Express and relocated to the route from Pozzuoli to Ischia , where it remained in service for the next 31 years.
On November 23, 2005, the ship sank in the port of Naples. The next day, the now 69-year-old ship was recovered and put back into service after renovation work. Ischia Express ended its active service in June 2008 after 72 years.
Casino Royale
After serving as a ferry, the ship was sold to Montenegro under the name Casino Royale , where it was used as a floating casino for the next four years. On May 16, 2012, the 76-year-old Casino Royale arrived to be scrapped in Aliağa, Turkey .
