The Brandenburg an der Havel fire department in the city of Brandenburg was founded in 1872. Today it is divided into a professional fire brigade and nine volunteer fire brigades .

General

The respective volunteer fire brigades and the professional fire brigade are alerted to the operations in the various parts of the city and district. Alerting the volunteers as well as the professional fire brigade ensures that emergency services arrive at the scene promptly at any time of the day or night. The Brandenburg volunteer fire brigade is excluded from this double alert, as it shares a watch with the professional fire brigade. If the volunteer fire brigade arrives in front of the comrades of the professional fire brigade at the scene and the chief of operations assesses that his forces and resources are sufficient, the professional fire brigade breaks off the journey to the scene and returns to its own station.

Professional fire brigade

In addition to the volunteer fire brigade, the professional fire brigade has also been active in fire fighting and technical assistance since 1917. The main load of the operations in the urban area of Brandenburg is taken over by the professional fire brigade with its 64 comrades. These are divided into three watch departments, each of which work a 24-hour shift.
