Freud is an Austrian pop - band from Vienna . It emerged in 2007 from the band The O5 .

Band history

In January 2007, shortly after the breakup of the punk band The O5, Axel Freud and Oliver Damms decided to continue making music together and founded the band Freud together. It was clear from the start that they wanted to be named after a famous personality. They experimented with the surnames of Oscar Wilde and Jochen Rindt , but finally decided to name themselves after Sigmund Freud , who had a practice in the 9th district of Vienna, where the band also has their rehearsal room. The rest of the band came from different Austrian bands.

Freud released first songs on the singles Sex You Again / Beep That Girl and Kiss Me 4 Times / Plus Minus (both via Cheap Records ). These were well received by the Austrian radio and television stations FM4 and gotv and took first place on various indie charts. In 2009 her debut album, Best.Most.Beautiful, was released on Cheap Records.

In 2012 Vinzenz Schüler (bass) and Marie Augustin (keyboard) joined the band. In 2014 the second album Yesterday Today Tomorrow was released on Recordbag. The album was released in a hamburger Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! -Studios recorded on equipment from the 60s to 80s. Dennis Rux took over the production (including Trashmonkeys ).

Music genre

Originally formed from a punk band, the group decided to make more pop. However, there are still punk elements in the music. Other genres that have had an influence are 60s beat , disco and glam rock, as well as reggae on newer releases . The band therefore calls their style "Pop'n'Roll". Musically you try to entertain, so don't write any depressive songs, but still try to maintain a certain level and to stimulate thought.
