Freudenberg is a village on a 802 meter high hilltop in the municipality of Moosburg in the political district of Klagenfurt-Land . The Rotte, south of the village of Maria Feicht, consists essentially of a country inn and a pilgrimage church.
Way of the Cross
The last third of the driveway from Witsch to Freudenberg is lined with fourteen stops on a Way of the Cross with pictures and descriptions of the Passion of Jesus Christ . The church itself is the fifteenth stop and the end of the Passion Trail .
Hiking trails
In addition to the convenient access route, there are also well-marked hiking trails to the top . The Freudenberg is very popular with pilgrims, hikers and cyclists and is therefore an exquisite excursion destination.
In the winter months, you can indulge in curling , which is very common in Carinthia, on an ice rink maintained by the host. history
In 1722 a wooden chapel was built on the occasion of a vision of Mary, which had to be demolished again in 1725 by order of the Salzburg Ordinariate due to the danger of superstition. The miraculous image was brought to Maria Feicht. In 1780 a new unauthorized chapel was built in wood construction. 1842–44, the current church was built at the instigation of Leopold Anton Praskowitz, provost of Friesach, cathedral priest of Klagenfurt.
Building
Small Biedermeier building; Long drawn-in polygonal choir with ogival windows. Northern sacristy. Presented west tower with round arched sound openings, onion dome, tower ground floor open with round arches on 3 sides. The triangular gable of the south portal is marked 1843. West portal. - On the eastern outer wall of the choir, larger-than-life carved crucifix with Mary and John, 19th century. Inside: nave with three bays, with square vaults, on pillars. West gallery over an elliptical arch. Narrow round arched triumphal arch. Choir with two bays, square with belt arch; polygonal end with stitch caps.
Facility
High altar, mid-18th century, Pietá painting, below life-size figures of saints above the sacrificial doors . The left side altar on the wall of the triumphal arch from the middle of the 18th century shows a carved mercy seat . Painting of St. Florian.- Pulpit around 1800. The bell placed under the organ gallery is a copy of the oldest bell in Carinthia (around 1100), which is in the diocesan museum " Treasure Chamber Gurk ". A portrait of the church's founder, Leopold Anton Praskowitz, hangs above the south portal. His hands rest on an empty casket as a sign of his great financial commitment. The plaque below gives a brief outline of the history of this pilgrimage church. There is an iron-studded offering box next to the portal.
