Siegfried Michalk

Siegfried Michalk ( Upper Sorbian Frido Michałk ; born October 6, 1927 in Rachlau near Bautzen ; † June 6, 1992 ) was a Sorbian Slavist and Sorabist . He was one of the key contributors to the creation of the Sorbian Language Atlas .

After his studies he worked at the Sorbian Institute of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and later became a research assistant at the Institute for Sorbian Folk Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Bautzen.

In addition to the work on the Sorbian Language Atlas, he and his colleague Helmut Faßke have published a large number of publications on certain dialects and dialects of the Sorbian language , for example the Neustädter dialect . He was also involved in editing German-Sorbian dictionaries and Sorbian grammars.
