Friedenskirche (Berndorf)
St. Georg or Friedenskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Berndorf , a district of Thurnau in the Upper Franconian district of Kulmbach ( Bavaria ).
history
In the place of today's church there was a chapel, which was enlarged in 1586 and 1614. The oldest two bells of today's St. Georg church come from this chapel.
As early as 1400 there must have been a St. Leonards Chapel at the end of the village in the direction of Menchau .
In 1567 the parish of Berndorf-Menchau- Leesau was founded, the rectory of which was built in Berndorf shortly before the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War . The old church was torn down after one last hour of prayer in February 1764. After two years of construction under the master builder Johann Thomas Nissler , the new Friedenskirche was inaugurated on Michaelmas Day in 1766. It has a traditional east tower . In the years 2004 to 2006 the church was renovated .
