Menchau is a district of the Thurnau market in the Kulmbach district in Upper Franconia .
geography
The village lies at the foot of the White Mountain in a basin where the Aubach rises in a contained spring. The steep slope on the Jura plateau carries iron ore. In 1879, the Maximilian and Satisfaction mines operated by the Fichtelberg iron ore union were given up due to the low yield. The district road KU 8 leads to Leesau (2 km southwest) or past Berndorf to Thurnau to the state road 2689 (1.3 km northeast), which in turn leads to junction 22 of the A 70 .

In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Thurnau Lordship Court (from 1852 Thurnau Regional Court ) and in the financial administration to the Thurnau Rent Office ( renamed Thurnau Tax Office in 1919 ). From 1862 Menchau was administered by the Kulmbach District Office (renamed the Kulmbach District in 1939 ).
