Friedrich August Leopold Karl von Schwerin

Friedrich August Leopold Karl von Schwerin (born December 11, 1750 in Berlin ; † September 16, 1836 there ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the body cuirassier regiment and knight of the Order of St. John and heir of Bohrau, district of Oels . On January 6, 1787 he was raised to the Prussian count status.

Life

His parents were the royal head stable master Gneomar Konrad Bogislav von Schwerin (* November 3, 1721 - August 10, 1769) and his wife Illsabe Sophie Dorothea, born von Bredow (* October 10, 1722 - May 28, 1788). She was a daughter of Colonel Johann Ludwig von Bredow. His father was also a knight of the Order of St. John and designated Komtur von Lagow . His grandparents were the royal stable master Friedrich Bogislav von Schwerin († 1747) and his wife Dorothea von Canitz († February 3, 1760), a daughter of Major General Christoph Albrecht von Canitz .

Military career

Schwerin came in 1765 as a standard junker in the Gensdarmes regiment , and on March 22, 1765 he was accepted as a Johanniter knight candidate. He became a cornet on May 12, 1788 and a lieutenant on May 4, 1773. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . Then on May 31, 1782, Schwerin was staff assistant master and on November 4, 1788 Rittmeister and company commander . On May 31, 1789 he became a major . Due to illness, he was given two months' leave on March 9, 1793 to take a cure in Karlsbad. After his return on May 2, 1793 he was accepted as a Knight of St. John.

Schwerin then took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . After the war, he became lieutenant colonel on June 8, 1798 and colonel and commander of the Gensdarmes regiment on June 6, 1799 . On October 17, 1805 he received the body cuirassier regiment as chief. On October 29, 1805 he was first brigadier and on May 20, 1806 major general with a patent from June 2, 1806. He also took part in the Fourth Coalition War, fought near Auerstedt and was able to retreat to Prenzlau . But there he had to capitulate with others. On May 30, 1807 he received his farewell with thanks for the service rendered. On October 10, 1808, the court martial for the surrender at Prenzlau was completed, in which he was acquitted. He died in Berlin on September 16, 1836.

He inherited the Willmersdorf estate from his uncle Friedrich Albert Graf von Schwerin in 1789, and from his widow in 1814 also the Bohrau estate, in 1833 a share in the Spantekow fiefdom came in.

family

Schwerin married Countess Luise Johanna Friederike von der Schulenburg-Kehnert on October 3, 1785 in Berlin (* May 10, 1767 - March 28, 1847), daughter of General Schulenburg-Kehnert . The couple had several children including:

  • Christian Ludwig Friedrich Wilhelm (born March 19, 1787; † April 27, 1858), secret judge and court judge, progenitor of the Willmersdorfer branch ∞ Luise Wilhelmine Christiane Ebel (1819–1901) (parents of Fritz Graf von Schwerin )
  • Adolf Leopold Albrecht (born August 16, 1789 - † March 13, 1808), retired lieutenant. D.
  • Ludwig August Leopold (born September 16, 1794; † January 31, 1863), lieutenant ∞ Countess Eugenie Corona Sophia von Reichenbach-Goschütz (born May 13, 1797; † October 10, 1867)
  • Luise Friederike Laura (* July 13, 1809 - † July 14, 1809)
