Ulrich Lebrecht von Heyking (born August 12, 1745 on Groß-Ilmagen in Courland , † November 15, 1809 in Pasewalk ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the dragoon regiment of the same name .

Life

origin

His parents were Wilhelm Alexander von Heyking (* November 20, 1691) and his wife Benigna Elisabeth, born von Pfeilitzer called Franck (* 1709; † April 20, 1790) from the Sehmen family . His father was the Landgrave of Hessen-Kasselsch Rittmeister and hereditary lord on Ilmagen.

Military career

Heyking came on November 15, 1760 as a Junker to the "Bayreuth Dragoons" of the Prussian Army and on November 15, 1761 became an ensign . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the siege of Schweidnitz and was wounded in the battle near Weidenau in Bohemia. On May 28, 1763, he was promoted to second lieutenant . Shortly before the start of the War of the Bavarian Succession , Heyking became Prime Lieutenant on March 22, 1778 . During the war he fought at Zuckmantel.

On January 2, 1786 he was staff captain , on September 22, 1789 major and on February 25, 1790 squadron chief . In the serious coalition war , Heyking took part in the sieges of Verdun and Landau , in the cannonade of Valmy and the battles near Frankfurt and Hochheim. On December 22, 1794 he received permission to marry and two months' leave to Courland. On June 19, 1798 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 17, 1799 to colonel . Heyking was given command of the regiment on May 12, 1805 and, on the occasion of a review on May 28, 1805, the order Pour le Mérite . On May 20, 1806 he was appointed major general by patent from June 6, 1806 and chief of his regiment on August 19. In the fourth coalition war , Heyking took part in the battle near Halle (Saale) and was captured during the surrender in Ratkau.

He was then given half pay on November 8, 1807 with the prospect of re- employment . On March 30, 1809 he became inspector of the captured officers in the Anklam and Demmin area . He died on November 15, 1809 in Pasewalk and was buried in the church of Rollwitz .

Heyking married Charlotte Helene Erdmuthe von Lossow († June 24, 1792) from the house of Rissen in 1790 . From the marriage the son Heinrich Adolf Friedrich (* June 20, 1792, † December 4, 1812) emerged, who fell during the Russian campaign .
