Friedrich Christian Krieger , also Friedrich Christian Krüger , (born May 23, 1774 in "Zeucha" near Forst , Niederlausitz ; † June 13, 1832 in Dresden ) was a German painter who was best known for his portraits .

Act

Krieger learned the tailoring trade in Cottbus and initially started his own business as a master tailor. In 1800 he began an apprenticeship with a focus on portrait painting at the Dresden Art Academy , supplemented it in 1801 with drawing lessons from Christian August Lindner and continued it in 1803/4 with the professor of genre and portrait painting Johann Eleazar Schenau . He then traveled as a wandering portraitist through Bohemia and Lusatia, preferring to work in pastel . In 1814 it was recorded in Breslau , then in Poznan . In WarsawIn addition to portraits, he created religious and figurative representations, such as images of saints for the parish church in Łękińsko near Piotrków. After further trips, he took up residence in Dresden in 1822.

He made a name for himself. In 1828 he was commissioned to paint an oil painting for the archbishop in Prague , which was followed by commissions from other celebrities. Krüger's works have been shown at exhibitions from Berlin to Breslau.

Familiar

His two children followed his example as an artist. His daughter Lina Johanna Caroline (1802 or 1803–1884) taught himself, his son Gustav Ferdinand (* 1805) also attended the Dresden Academy. In 1820 Krüger exhibited his works for the first time together with those of his children in Breslau.

Remarks

  1. The indication of a place name Zeucha bei Forst can only be found in the literature in the context of the place of birth of Friedrich Christian Krüger. Possibly Zauchel , northeast of the city, is meant, today Suchodół in the Polish rural community of Brody .
