Friedrich Clemens von Ketteler

Friedrich Clemens (called Fritz) Freiherr von Ketteler-Harkotten and Schwarzenraben (born March 23, 1839 at House Itlingen near Herbern ; † March 5, 1906 at Eringerfeld Castle ) was a German majorate owner and politician from the Westphalian noble family von Ketteler .

Life

He was a son of Wilderich von Ketteler . He attended the Rheinische Ritterakademie in Bedburg and the grammar school in Osnabrück . Then he attended the University of Innsbruck . Then he entered the Prussian military service. In the 1860s he was an active officer in the 8th Hussar Regiment (1st Westphalian) in Paderborn . In 1863 he married the widow Maria Kunigunde Freifrau von der Betten , widowed Freifrau von Hoerde , née. Baroness of Asbeck. This was heir to the Hoerde'schen goods Castle Schwarzenraben , Schloss Eringerfeld and Good Mittelhausen. In the same year he resigned from active military service as a first lieutenant, but took part in the German-Danish War in 1864 and in the German War in 1866 as a reserve officer. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he was responsible for the care of the wounded as Commissioner of the Order of Malta . After 1870 he was involved in numerous church, social and charitable organizations, associations and committees. He also worked actively in the Westphalian farmers' association . He made several major trips to Italy , France , Austria and Switzerland . In 1881 he inherited the majorate of Harkotten and became head of the Ketteler family. In 1885 he acquired the Störmede estate . Before and after 1880 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the Center Party , since 1882 he was a member of the Westphalian Provincial Parliament and was a member of the Reichstag from 1884 to 1887 . There he represented the constituency of Lippstadt-Brilon.
