Friedrich Gabriel Muhlius

Friedrich Gabriel Muhlius (born March 7, 1702 in Schleswig ; † February 7, 1776 in Kiel ) was a German privy councilor and vice chancellor in the ducal Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf . Muhlius founded the orphanage in the Damperhof district of Kiel .

Life

Muhlius was the second son of the marriage of Heinrich Muhlius and Anna Muhlius, a daughter of Gabriel Wedderkop . Muhlius initially studied law at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel from 1720 to 1722 . Muhlius continued his studies at the Friedrichs University in Halle an der Saale and finished it in 1724 with the legal exam.

Muhlius began his civil service career in the Duchy of Holstein-Gottorf . In 1730 he was first a police advisor and - after moving to the judiciary in 1733 - then vice chancellor. In the same year Muhlius founded the ducal upper consistorial court, a church court to which he also belonged.

The single Muhlius earned a handsome fortune through his work. In 1769 he also inherited the Damperhof from his brother Heinrich Muhlius . In March 1771, Friedrich Gabriel Muhlius was retired by Katharina II , Empress of Russia and Duchess of Holstein-Gottorf, according to his wishes . Based on a recommendation by his friend Caspar von Saldern , Muhlius brought his fortune in a will on 14/21. June 1771 into the establishment of an orphanage in the legal form of a foundation . The orphanage was opened posthumously on July 1, 1781 in the Damperhof. The closure followed in February 1861.

After his death, Friedrich Gabriel Muhlius was buried on February 13, 1776 in a wooden coffin in the Muhlius chapel, which is located within the Bordesholm collegiate church. The entry of February 13, 1776 reads: Was Sr. Excellency of H. Geh. Rath Gabr. Fried. Muhlius, knight, who died of Podagra at Kiel , in his hereditary burial with usual. Solemnity buried. After the completion of the sarcophagus , the wooden coffin was placed in this stone coffin.
