Friedrich Gottfried Leue (born February 24, 1801 in Salzwedel ; † February 4, 1872 there ) was a German lawyer and legal reformer, politician and author.

Life

Leue dedicated his professional life to the jurisprudence . He attended high school in Salzwedel from 1810 to 1820 and then studied law at the University of Halle from 1820 to 1822 . In 1823 he began working as a lawyer at the Magdeburg Regional Court and the Salzwedel City Court . Leue actively campaigned for reforms in politics and the judiciary to achieve democratic change. From 1835 to 1865 he worked as chief procurator in the Rhine province. In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . From May 18, 1848 to April 23, 1849 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly , from 1849 to 1850 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Prussian Parliament . In 1859 Leue was a member of the Central Council of the German National Association and worked from 1862 to 1866 in the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituencies of Salzwedel and Gardelegen . In 1869 he returned to Salzwedel.

In 1845 Leue printed "The Jury Court" at his own expense. In it he called on the public to take part in legal proceedings, the participation of lay judges and the elimination of patrimonial jurisdiction. That earned him a lawsuit for high treason. However, Leue was acquitted, but still transferred to a sentence.

In his political stance, Leue stood up for the common good. This gave him a high level of credibility among the population. He was considered a fighter for a unified, undivided and democratic fatherland. His endeavors as a lawyer and as a member of parliament were aimed at changing the legal system . He called for the state's arbitrariness to be replaced by a legally guaranteed freedom of the individual on the part of the state. With this, the lawyer laid the foundation for a legal system that operates independently and freely on legal bases. For him, these included:
