Friedrich Klocke

Friedrich Klocke (born May 28, 1847 in Breslau , † June 17, 1884 in Marburg ) was a German mineralogist and crystallographer .

Life

Friedrich Klocke attended the Realschule and the Gymnasium in Breslau, studied at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Breslau and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked until his marriage in 1870 as an assistant at the Mineralogical Institute of Heidelberg University. From 1870 he devoted himself to independent research until he qualified as a professor for mineralogy in 1873 at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg im Breisgau . Friedrich Klocke worked as a private lecturer at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from July 3, 1873, became an associate professor on August 2, 1879, and in 1881 as the successor to Adolf von Koenen as a full professor of mineralogy and petrography and director of the mineralogical department of the mineralogical institute appointed to the Philipps University of Marburg .

The main focus of his scientific activity was the processing of crystallographic questions.

Friedrich Klocke fell ill a few years later and was unable to continue working scientifically due to incessant headaches and almost complete insomnia.

During his illness and also in the early days after his early death, his then assistant and student Reinhard Anton Brauns held lectures and exercises for him until the mineralogist Max Bauer was appointed as his successor in Marburg in 1884 .
