Friedrich Lange

Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Lange (born February 27, 1837 in Hagen-Helfe , † May 17, 1918 in Essen - Bredeney ) was a German chemist , industrial manager and politician . He was head and director of the steel industry in Emsland and the Ruhr area as well as a member of the provincial parliament of the Rhine province .

Live and act

Friedrich Lange was born to parents in need. On the basis of a scholarship , he attended the provincial trade school in Hagen. He passed the matriculation examination and completed the Gewerbeinstitut Berlin with another scholarship .

In 1857 he took up his first job and became a chemist at the New Scotland blast furnace in Haßlinghausen . In 1864 he managed the blast furnace facility in Meppen . Three years later, Lange was director of the Alexishütte in Wietmarschen .

On July 1, 1869, he took over the management of the Phoenix furnace plant in (Essen) Bergeborbeck . From 1874 he managed the Phoenixhütte in (Essen-) Kupferdreh in personal union .

In addition, between 1870 and 1914, Lange was an unpaid alderman of the Borbeck mayor's office at the time , and since 1915 part of the city of Essen. At times he was a member of the Essen District Assembly and the Provincial Assembly of the Rhine Province . He was also chairman of the memorial committee and thus campaigned for the Germania memorial in Borbeck.

In 1914 Friedrich Lange retired. He died in Essen-Bredeney in 1918 and was buried in the Catholic Rosenhügel cemetery in Essen's Bochold district .

Honors

The former Hochstraße in the Essen district of Bochold was renamed Friedrich-Lange-Straße on February 26, 1907 on the occasion of the completion of his 70th year of life, in order to thank him for his services to the state and the community and the special promotion of the public interest .
