Friedrich Schwindl (born May 3, 1737 in Amsterdam , † August 7, 1786 in Karlsruhe ) was a Dutch composer and musician.

Life

Friedrich Schwindl worked as a violinist , flautist , pianist , lecturer and composer. In 1763 he met Leopold Mozart and the young Mozart in Brussels , at the court of Count Carl von Colloredo-Mannsfeld, where he was employed as virtuoso di violino . Among other things, he was concertmaster of Count von Wied-Runkel and in 1770 at the court of Wilhelm V in The Hague . In 1776 he settled in Geneva , where he founded a music school. In 1780 he moved to Karlsruhe, where he worked as concertmaster of the Badische Hofkapelle of Margrave Karl Friedrich von Baden-Durlach until his death .

His works were very popular at the time and were, in part, published in repeated editions by Johann Julius Hummel in Amsterdam. Schwindl composed, among other things, symphonies in the style of the Mannheim School , which also contained elements of the Italian opera symphony. The chamber music Dizze was in 1806 by Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart characterized as follows dizziness, a popular and famous throughout Germany Violincomponist. It is not difficult to bet, but all the more attractive for dilletantes. His performance is flowing and his mind is in the mood for sweet melancholy: therefore he became a favorite composer for the sects of the sensitive . He created vocal duets and trios as well as oratorios and various choral works . The singspiele Die Drei Lächter (1778) and Das Liebesgrab (1779) were both performed in Mulhouse , where Schwindl organized public concerts for music lovers, albeit without financial success.
