from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Wilhelm Maul (born March 26, 1780 in Lippstadt ; † November 30, 1852 there ) was a German portrait painter.

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Maul was the son of the sexton of the Marienkirche in Lippstadt. His father died early, nothing is known about his education. Maul may have been a student at the Kassel Academy under Wilhelm Böttner . From 1809 he can be verified as a court painter at the court of Waldeck in Arolsen . In the years 1822 and 1823 he was listed in the official soul register of Arolsen as “court painter Maul”. In Arolsen, Maul created portraits of the royal family, the court officials and the old Waldeck families in the Biedermeier style , often in pastel as half-length busts.
