Wilhelm Boettner
Wilhelm Böttner (born February 24, 1752 in Ziegenhain , † November 24, 1805 in Kassel ) was a late Baroque and early Classicist painter . He created portraits and mythological scenes that were extremely valued in his era. Wilhelm Böttner was next to his teacher Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder. Ä. , the Kasseler Tischbein , one of the leading portrait and history painters in Kurhessen . He was the last important academy director in the royal seat of Kassel.
Life
Wilhelm Böttner grew up in Ziegenhain. From 1767 to 1770 he was with Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder. Ä trained in drawing and painting in Kassel. In 1772 he traveled to Düsseldorf . In 1773 Wilhelm Böttner worked artistically in Paris . In Paris he learned the table from student Johann August Nahl the Elder. J. know. In 1774 he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts (ABA) in Paris. In 1777 he moved to Rome and studied the works of Raphael intensively . The painting “Jupiter and Ganymede” was created under this lasting impression. Goethe considers this masterpiece in his Winkelmann with great praise. Johann Friedrich Reiffenstein arranged for Wilhelm Böttner, who had a fever, to find a pension for Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel . Thereupon Wilhelm Böttner returned to Kassel via Vienna and Dresden in 1781 . Initially, she was accepted into the Kassel painter academy. From 1783 to 1784 he created portraits of King Louis XVI, among others, during a renewed stay in Paris . of France and his wife Marie Antoinette , Queen of France. In 1784 Friedrich II. Of Hessen-Kassel appointed Wilhelm Böttner initially as court painter. His recording piece for the Kassel Academy Daedalus binds Icarus created in 1786. After the death of Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder. Ä and finally in 1789 to his successor as the first court painter to Landgrave Wilhelm IX. The professorship and the directorate of the Academy for Painting in Kassel were connected with the appointment . He held this office in Kassel until his death in 1805.
Böttner's estate consisting of paintings and drawings was auctioned on October 27, 1806 in Kassel. His daughter Marie married Ludwig Emil Grimm in 1832 .
