Friedrich Wilhelm von Borcke (* 1680 in Pomerania ; † November 5, 1743 in Kolberg ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the Kolberg Fortress and heir to Wangerin , Wuhrow and Glietzig ( Regenwalde district ).

Life

His parents were the Pomeranian district administrator and heir to Unheim Franz Joachim von Borcke (* 1631; † 23 March 1692) and his wife Elisabeth Emerentia, born von Reiffenberg (* 5 July 1663; † 1683). The chamber director Franz Heinrich von Borcke (* around 1675; † 1739) was his brother.

Military career

Borcke first went into Polish service as a Junker in 1697 and became a lieutenant there in 1700. On April 19, 1704 he entered Prussian service as a cavalry master in the Katte cuirassier regiment . He fought in the War of the Spanish Succession in the battles of Oudenaarde and Malplaquet . On January 29, 1712 he rose to major . In the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 he took part in the siege of Stralsund. On November 14, 1716 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1723 to regimental commander on April 15 and to colonel on June 29 .

On January 2, 1733, Borcke asked King Friedrich Wilhelm I to leave because of illness . The king refused, but promised him the next command post that would become available. On July 16, 1734, he gave Borcke permission to go to Eisenach for advertising and then to the Reich. He should stay with the regiment until November 1st and receive 30 thalers a month in return, but then a pension of 1000 thalers a year. In 1736, the king promoted Borcke to major general and in December allowed him to stay on his property in Pomerania. On September 7, 1740, King Friedrich II gave Borcke the post of commandant of Kolberg. He died there on November 5, 1743. He was buried on his Wangerin estate. Friedrich had promised his widow a pension.
