Friedrich Wilhelm Wilhelmi , actually Friedrich Wilhelm von Pannwitz (born April 21, 1788 in Schlichow , Niederlausitz , † May 2, 1852 in Vienna ) was a German- Austrian actor .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelmi comes from the Prussian noble family Pannwitz . At the age of 19 he entered Prussian military service and participated in the defeat against Napoleon in the battle of Jena .

After the peace of Tilsit he had to say goodbye and got into an emergency. In Dresden he received a letter of recommendation to the theater director Johann Karl Liebich in Prague , who hired him in 1813, where he made his debut as "Gottlieb Coke" in party rage .

The success of his first appearances was so resounding that he was appointed to the Hofburgtheater in Vienna in 1822, to which he remained loyal as one of the most respected members until his death in 1852. Joseph Schreyvogel recognized his talent for the comic subject early on.

He later played many great roles in the classical repertoire. His personality and his artistic achievements were highly valued by Heinrich Laube , who also gave the first funeral speech for a Burgtheater member at his grave.

The grave inscription in the Matzleinsdorfer Friedhof reflects the appreciation he was shown in Vienna during his time :

A good man who never had an enemy,
a happy artist who was the pride and joy of the Burgtheater
, he made the name Wilhelmi unforgettable
for Vienna and German acting
