Friedrich von Gemmingen (born June 6, 1691 in Neckarzimmern ; † November 2, 1738 ) was an Onolzbach (also Ansbach ) chamberlain and court councilor and landlord in Babstadt . He founded the Babstadt line of the barons of Gemmingen .

Life

Friedrich von Gemmingen was born in 1691 as the son of the Baden President and Court Marshal Reinhard von Gemmingen zu Hornberg (1645–1707) and his wife Maria Elisabetha von Neipperg . He attended grammar school in Durlach until the French broke in and then came to Basel with his parents , where his mother stayed for almost a year after his father's death while Friedrich attended lectures at the university there. He then studied in Jena , Gießen and Halle . After a two-year cavalier tour through Holland, England and France, he came to the Hesse-Darmstadt court for two years and then became an Onolzbach Chamberlain and Councilor. Court life did not appeal to him, however, which is why he soon withdrew to his estates and devoted himself to their administration and church building.

He and his brothers Reinhard (1677–1750), Eberhard (1688–1767) and Ludwig (1694–1771) acquired Babstadt in 1732, which then fell to him when the property was divided. He initiated the construction of the Protestant church in Babstadt and that of the Protestant church in Kälbertshausen .

family

From 1718 he was married to Maria Flandrina Thumb von Neuburg, who died in 1727. Soon after her death, he entered into a second marriage with Wilhelmine Leopoldine Rüdt von Collenberg († 1763). The first marriage had four children and the second five, but not all of them grew up. The Babstadt line was continued by the son Johann Philipp (1729–1766).
