Friedrich von Rosen ( Russian Фридрих Фридрихович Розен ; born April 20, jul. / 2. May  1834 greg. In St. Petersburg , † March 2 jul. / 15. March  1902 greg. In Kazan ) was a Russian mineralogist .

Life

Origin and family

Friedrich was a member of the Estonian Barons von Rosen from the Kiekel family . His parents were the Russian State Councilor and chief curator of the South Russian colonist settlements, Friedrich von Rosen (1808-1854) and Helena Ivanovna, née Smirnowa (1807-1873).

He married Julia Elachich in Kazan in 1867. The marriage resulted in nine children, who, however, were no longer listed in the registers of the Estonian knighthood . The eldest son Friedrich or Fedor († after 1937) is known, who embarked on a legal career, but after the revolution came into conflict with the Soviets several times , but was able to continue the line .

Career

Rosen attended the Lyceum Richelieu in Odessa and then the University of Dorpat , where he completed his studies in mineralogy in 1863 with a master's degree and in 1867 with a doctorate . From 1868 to 1899 he was Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Kazan . From 1874 he was dean of the faculty for physics and mathematics. In 1878 he was promoted to Real Councilor of State and since 1880 has also lectured at the Veterinary Institute in Kazan.
