Fritz Friedrichs (painter)
Fritz Friedrichs (born May 17, 1882 in Hamburg , † July 28, 1928 in Hoopte ) was a German post-impressionist painter and member of the Hamburg Art Club .
Life
After finishing school, Fritz Friedrichs attended the arts and crafts school in Hamburg from 1898 and two years later became a student of Arthur Siebelist . Together with the other Siebelist painting students, he was accepted into the Hamburg Art Club in 1903. In the spring of 1904 he and his classmates had a first exhibition in the Commeter Gallery in Hermannstrasse in Hamburg. Kunsthalle director Alfred Lichtwark thanked Siebelist with the words: “[...] You gave your students an infinite amount. What you have done ... will benefit Hamburg ”.
In 1908 Friedrichs went on a study trip to the Netherlands and took part in an exhibition on the bridge the following year . In 1910 he founded a painting school in his studio and became the teacher of Gretchen Wohlwill . In 1911 he worked as an art critic and married his model Gertrud Harlos. During the First World War he was drafted into military service in Poland in 1914. After a stay in the hospital the following year, he had an exhibition in Gerda Koppel's Hamburg painting school. After the war he took part in an exhibition at the Free Secession in Berlin in 1919 .
Fritz Friedrichs died in Hoopte in 1928 after a long illness.
Friedrich's works are exhibited in the Hamburger Kunsthalle , the Kunsthalle Bremen and the Museum of Hamburg History .
