Fritz Krenn (singer)

Fritz Krenn (born December 11, 1887 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † July 12, 1963 (according to the tombstone) there) was an Austrian opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Krenn was initially a drawing teacher before studying singing with Otto Iro at the Vienna Music Academy . In 1917 he made his debut in Trieste and in 1918 came to the Vienna Volksoper . From 1918 to 1919 in Pressburg , 1919–1920 in Reichenberg , 1919–1924 at the Vienna State Opera and 1925–1927 in Wiesbaden . From 1927 to 1943 engaged at the Berlin State Opera and member of the Kroll Opera ensemble . Krenn appeared again at the Vienna State Opera from 1934 to 1959 (member from 1937 to 1958). He was also a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble from 1948 to 1959. He sang at the Salzburg Festival in 1935, 1937-1939 and 1946, also in Bayreuth, London, Milan, Rome, New York (debut at the Met 1951), in Europe , in North and South America . Krenn's most-sung role was the ox in Richard Strauss Rosenkavalier . At the end of his career he was a singing teacher .

His final resting place is in the Pötzleinsdorfer Friedhof (group F, number 50) in Vienna.
