Christian Friedrich Leopold Regel , also Fritz Regel ; (* January 17, 1853 at Tenneberg Castle near Waltershausen ; † December 2, 1915 in Würzburg ) was a German geographer .

Life

He was the son of District Administrator Friedrich Wilhelm rule and grandson of the theologian and teacher Friedrich Ludwig Andreas rule (1770-1826). After attending the Ernestinum grammar school in Gotha , he studied mathematics and natural sciences in Jena and became a teacher at the Keferstein Institute in Jena in 1876, at the Realgymnasium in Lippstadt in 1876/77 , then at the Oberrealschule in Braunschweig , in 1878 at the Schweterschen Institute in Jena and from 1882 to 1882 1890 at the Stoy School there.

In 1884 he completed his habilitation, became a private lecturer in geography at the University of Jena and in 1892 an associate professor there . From 1898 to 1900 he was also in charge of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History . In 1899 he became associate professor of geography at the University of Würzburg , where on February 24, 1911, he gave his "Imperial Speech", which triggered debates throughout the Reich and criticized Wilhelm II .

Regel was the grandson of Friedrich Ludwig Andreas Regel and nephew of Eduard August von Regel .
