Fritz Reichert (sports scientist)

Fritz Reichert (* 1925 ; † September 1, 2011 ) was a German sports scientist , university professor and ski sports official .

Life

Reichert was a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Education at the University of Leipzig and from 1953 at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . In 1956, his dissertation "The influence of the ski shape on the changes in direction in the descent" was accepted. Until 1960 he held a position at the DHfK as a senior scientific assistant at the Institute for Water Sports, Winter Sports and Tourism, before becoming a lecturer and then head of the winter sports science department. In his research work he dealt, among other things, with training methodological aspects of cross-country skiing, evaluating the competition and training of the world's best in this sport and carefully examining the aspect of the growth of cross-country skis. As early as 1962 he and Edelfrid Buggel had submitted the “ski textbook”, which was expanded in 1967 to include the work “On training and technology in the ski disciplines: supplements to the ski textbook for students of the DHfK”. In 1967 the book “Skilanglauf: Instructions” followed, also in collaboration with Siegfried Lorenz . In 1976, together with Klaus Nitzsche and Eckart Henker , Reichert brought out another textbook with “To perfect the skiing training in the 1st level”.

In 1980 Reichert, who was nicknamed “Doctor Taille”, completed his PhD B  on the subject of “The physical abilities in cross-country skiing - their determination and development in training: Contribution to the theory and methodology of training in long-term endurance sports”. In the 1980s, in addition to aspects of ski technology, he also dealt with performance-physiological issues. From then on he worked with the rank of professor at the DHfK. From 1972 to 1985 he also held the office of Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sports Methodology. He ran the institute for winter sports until he had to leave the service in 1985 for health reasons.

Reichert is credited with having greatly advanced the performance development in the top area of ​​cross-country skiing with his scientific work in collaboration with the German Skier Association (DSLV) of the German Democratic Republic.

On the sport-political level, Reichert was a member of the cross-country skiing coaching council from 1960 to 1978 and its head from 1964 to 1970, and from 1968 to 1985 he was chairman of the commission for ski instructors at the State Secretariat for Physical Culture and Sport. In addition, from 1964 to 1979 he was a member of the endurance working group on the performance committee of the German Gymnastics and Sports Association. In addition, Reichert was a member of the Presidium of the German Skier Association. He was honored for his activities with the Pestalozzi Medal , the Humboldt Medal and the Labor Banner .
