Fritz Riedel (born March 1, 1908 in Berlin ; † August 21, 1944 in Brandenburg ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Fritz Riedel was a trained metal caster and an active member of the workers' sports movement (ATSB). After the National Socialist " seizure of power " he joined the resistance group around Robert Uhrig . There he worked underground as a courier to Essen, Hanover and Munich and helped set up resistance cells in southern Germany. The first meeting between Robert Uhrig and Beppo Römers and the instructor of the KPD Central Committee Alfred Kowalke , who had traveled illegally from the Netherlands, took place in his apartment .

In January 1942 Fritz Riedel was drafted into the Wehrmacht. On February 4, 1942, however, he was arrested by the Gestapo in Rathenow and sentenced to death by the People's Court on July 6, 1944 after two years of pre-trial detention. On August 21, 1944, he was beheaded with the guillotine in Brandenburg prison .
