Fritz Thelen (musician)

Fritz Thelen (born November 24, 1906 in Rheinhausen (Breisgau) ; † November 27, 1993 in Lindenberg im Allgäu ) was a German music director , music teacher , composer and professor who made a name for himself in the field of brass music through publications .

Act

Thelen passed the state examination in 1930 and then worked in various cities in the Rhineland as a music teacher, conductor, guest conductor, solo violinist, chamber musician and music critic. In 1944 he was appointed professor.

In 1950 he became a conductor at the Harmonie music association in Pfronten . Under his leadership the band of the Musikverein , which was affected by the Second World War , reached a high musical level again. This made it possible to participate in the German Federal Music Festival in 1951 . In 1952 he resigned as conductor of the band.

In 1954 he was recruited as a conductor for the Lindenberg town band. In October 1957 he was also given the musical direction of the Scheidegg Musikverein . He conducted there until June 30, 1971. In 1964, together with the string section, he separated from the Lindenberg City Orchestra and shortly afterwards founded the Lindenberg Municipal Orchestra Association.

Thelen was an active member of the Allgäu-Swabian Music Association . He was a co-founder of the International Society for the Research and Promotion of Brass Music (IGEB). According to him, which is Thelen Prize named IGEB. He was co-author of the standard work Handbuch der Blasmusik published by Willy Schneider in 1954 . Together with Wolfgang Suppan , he published the Lexicon of Brass Music in 1973 on behalf of the Federation of German Brass Music Associations . Thelen also worked as a reviewer for the Lindauer Zeitung . He died in 1993.
