The Fronhofturm (also Kompostellturm ) was a defensive tower of the city fortifications of Frankfurt am Main . It was located on the southeast side of the city near the tramline and protected the unpaved fishing field . The tower was built in 1350 in the course of the 200 years older Staufen wall and raised in 1406. In the course of the abandonment of the city fortifications and the construction of the Fischerfeldviertel , the Fronhofturm was demolished in 1793.

The tower stood at the end of Predigergasse, which led into Fahrgasse from the east opposite the flour scales , that is, near the cathedral choir . Right next to it, on the south side of Predigergasse, was the Arnsburger Hof , opposite on the north side was the Kompostellhof , a hostel for St. James pilgrims , and the eponymous Fronhof, a farm building of the Bartholomäusstift .

Its northern neighboring tower was the Mönchsturm at the Dominican monastery , built in 1356 and designed in a very similar way , its southern neighbor at the corner of the Staufen wall and the river wall on the Main bank was the Fischerfeldpförtchen (shooting gate), which was followed a few meters further by the northern bridge tower of the Main Bridge . The late medieval city wall, begun in 1333, ran there directly in front of the older Staufen wall, additionally secured by a moat, the Wollgraben . The alley on the inside of the wall was called Fronhofstrasse .

With the Fronhofturm, with the exception of the Dominican Church, all the buildings in the area at that time have completely disappeared from the cityscape, including Predigergasse, Fronhofstrasse and Wollgraben. Today Kurt-Schumacher-Straße runs directly to the west of the former location , the tower stood on the current site of the Stadtwerke on the east side of the street, a little south of the confluence with Rechneigrabenstraße .
