Wallservitut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wall Service of the City of Frankfurt am Main is a regulation issued in 1827 and confirmed several times since then for the protection of public green spaces , which were created after 1806 in place of the former Frankfurt city fortifications . The first protective provisions were issued soon afterwards by the then Grand Duke Carl Theodor von Dalberg . The area along the former city wall was parceled out and built on. Today the streets of the inner system ring run here , the Neue Mainzer- , Hoch-, Bleich-, Seiler- and Lange Straße. The area of the ramparts behind was converted into garden land that was not allowed to be built on and was open to the public.

After the Wall Service had passed, the green areas were permanently protected from development. Only the outside of the streets that form today's ring of facilities were allowed to be built on. In this way, a separation of the city center from the surrounding districts of the Bahnhofsviertel , Westend , Nordend and Ostend was created , which is still visible today

The Wallservitut is still valid today. Its valid version was passed on June 4, 1903 by the Prussian state parliament : "The law regarding the development and use of former ramparts in Frankfurt am Main". The plots on the edge of the green spaces may not be built more than 15 m deep. However, there have always been exceptions, e.g. B. for the construction of the old opera . The underground line U5 is also brought into daylight via a ramp located within the system ring.
