content

On Christmas Eve , 7-year-old Micha and his mother Marianne flee from their violent father. You can only take one suitcase with you in the short time.

Marianne reflects on her childhood in East Germany , to which part of Germany she now wants to return. She comes to a place covered with ice and a church tower visible. Everything else she discovers is emptiness and darkness.

After seven days, she finally meets people who are all wandering around and seemingly lost. Finally she finds shelter in a hotel, which is only temporary.

Aftermath

Inspired by the film, Thomas Christoph Heyde composed the work Sichtennetz (2000) for English horn, bassoon, guitar and viola, which was premiered by the Sortisatio ensemble in Leipzig.
