history

The place was founded by German settlers in the second half of the 14th century . It was mentioned in 1400 as Friwald , 1413 as Friwalth , 1428 as Priwalt , 1490 as Chriwald , 1564 as Frydwaliecz and finally in 1629 as Frywałd . The residents of the village were called Brandebory by neighbors because they probably originally came from Brandenburg . The village belonged to the Tenczyn Castle fortune for a long time .

During the third partition of Poland , Frywałd became part of the Habsburg Empire in 1795 . In the years 1815-1846 the village belonged to the Republic of Krakow , in 1846 it was annexed again as part of the Grand Duchy of Krakow to the countries of the Austrian Empire. From 1855 Frywałd belonged to the Chrzanów District .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Frywałd became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the Krakow district in the General Government .

From 1975 to 1998 Frywałd was part of the Kraków Voivodeship .
