The Berlin Football District League 1988/89 was the 37th season of the Berlin (East) Football District League, which was run by the Regional Technical Committee (BFA) .

The BSG Bergmann-Borsig Berlin won its third district championship title after 1977 and 1980 and rose to the GDR league in the 1989/90 season , in which it took over the playing rights from the second team of the BFC Dynamo . According to the decision of the GDR DFV, these were no longer allowed to participate in the GDR league game operations from the 1989/90 season.

Since the second representation of Rotation Berlin was not eligible for promotion, the BSG Pneumant Schmöckwitz took part in the promotion round to the GDR league. In this they missed the promotion by a fifth rank in the season 3.

Turbine EKB Treptow was relegated to the subordinate district class. In return, the district league newcomers Empor HO Berlin , Bau Eiche Köpenick and VSG Altglienicke rose in the following season . Altglienicke prevailed in the promotion games 3-1 and 3-2 against Unity Pankow .

TSG Oberschöneweide took over the playing rights from 1. FC Union Berlin II for the new season.
