The soccer globe - FIFA World Cup 2006 was an art and cultural object as part of the cultural program of the Soccer World Cup 2006 in Germany . The federal government provided grants totaling 30 million euros for the implementation of the arts and culture program . The soccer globe was invented by the artist André Heller , the project was realized by Christian Bauer, with the cooperation of Mero - TSK International (steel construction) and the design agency 3deluxe (interior and media architecture).

Held in the shape of a soccer ball, the contours of the continents or other motifs on its outer skin were illuminated in the dark. In addition to multimedia presentations, events such as poetry readings, lectures and discussions related to football took place inside.

From September 12, 2003 until the start of the World Cup, the globe was shown in all 12 venues one after the other.

From February 10, 2005, the soccer globe was also the subject of a German postage stamp.

In July 2006 the globe was dismantled and stored in a warehouse in Hamburg. In July 2009 the globe was auctioned on the eBay internet auction platform by a Hamburg entrepreneur.
