The Primero de Mayo Bay ( Spanish Bahía Primero de Mayo , in the United Kingdom Fumarole Bay ) is a bay on the southwest side of Port Foster of Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands .

Participants in an Argentine Antarctic expedition carried out from 1942 to 1943 named her after their ship, the Primero de Mayo ( German  First May ), which sank off the Argentine coast on February 5, 1944. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the name in 1965 in a partial translation into English. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the bay in 1959 after the most active fumaroles on the island that can be found here.

In Chile the bay is known as Surgidero Iquique , named after the research vessel Iquique on three Chilean expeditions to the Antarctic between 1946 and 1953. In some directories since 1980 it has been incorrectly equated with the Iquique Cove on Greenwich Island under this name .
