The Furgghorn (Italian: Cima del Breuil ; French: Tête du Breuil ) is a snow-capped 3451 m high mountain in the Matterhorn area ( Valais Alps ) in the south of the Swiss canton of Valais on the border with Italy .

The neighboring summit in the southeast is the Theodulhorn (3469 m), separated by the Furggsattel . In the northwest, the Matterhorn (Italian: Monte Cervino , French: Mont Cervin , 4478 m) joins over the Furgggrat . The peaks lie exactly on the state border between Switzerland and Italy, Aosta Valley region . The Furgghorn is located in the middle of two (summer) ski areas , in the northeast on the Theodul Glacier , and south of the Matterhorn, which are accessible from Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia with numerous cable cars and ski lifts .

Support points for the easiest ascent

  • From the CAI hut Rifugio del Teodulo (Italian) or Refuge du Théodule (French) at 3317 m in half an hour, according to literature, an easy glacier tour according to the SAC mountain and high-altitude tour scale .
  • From the intermediate station Trockener Steg of the Zermatt-Klein Matterhorn cable car in 2½ hours on an easy glacier tour to the Furgghorn.
  • Mountain station Stazione del Furggen (Italian) or Station du Furggen (French) (3491 m) of the disused cable car Cresta di Furggen (Italian) or Crête du Furggen (French) from Breuil-Cervinia. From here southeast on the Furggengrat it takes 45 minutes to reach the summit.
