Fushë-Arrëz ( Albanian also Fushë-Arrëzi ) is a small town in northern Albania with around 2500 inhabitants (2011 census). The local authorities, however, give a figure of 4777 inhabitants (2011). It is the second largest town in the former Puka County , one of the poorest areas in the country.
The city is located about 40 kilometers east of the city of Shkodra at the confluence of the Perroi i madh in the Fan i madh . The area is mountainous; Fushë-Arrëz is around 600 m above sea level. A.
Until 2015, Fushë-Arrëz was a small municipality covering 31.06 square kilometers. Then the other parishes in the east of the former Puka district - Blerim (913 inhabitants), Fierza (1302 inhabitants), Iballa (1129 inhabitants) and Qafë Mal (1548 inhabitants) - were incorporated. The new municipality has 74,000 inhabitants (as of 2011).
The Fushë-Arrëz copper mine, once the most important local employer, stood still for a long time after 1997. It is currently back in operation under Turkish management. Otherwise there is still forestry in the area .
An old road, the SH5 , connects the city over the Qafa e Malit with Kukës and Kosovo and to the west with the district capital Puka and further with the northern Albanian center Shkodra. Since the construction of the new A1 motorway from Rrëshen to Kukës in 2010, all traffic from central Albania to Kosovo has bypassed the city.
